Functional analysis and functional therapy

Temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJ) – disorders of the masticatory and “CMD”

Another part of modern dentistry is the diagnosis of dysfunctions of the masticatory system, which are kept by dentists under the umbrella term “cranio-mandibular dysfunction” (“CMD”) activities. We specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases that are characterized by the following signs or habits:

Gnashing of teeth and presses, especially at night and / or tension melt cracks in the front teeth or visible “frayed” incisor edge breaking out of tooth fragments at the gum line, or on elements of existing fillings or porcelain-pain in the head and face (especially in the cheeks and temples, typically moderate, but recurrent in the same place) clicking sounds in the jaw joints (especially if they are connected with movement restrictions) nonuniform and asymmetric mandibular movements, limitations of mouth opening as a whole.

The totality of these diseases is sometimes amateurish summarized as “TMJ disease”. Such disorders are besides caries and periodontal diseases among the most frequent problems in dentistry.

Unlike tooth decay and diseases of the gums you can see the symptoms of masticatory dysfunction only in a very late stage. In general, such symptoms are detected too late and only treated if significant functional limitations and / or even pain occur.

Also here is the interdisciplinary treatment with an orthopedic surgeon and physiotherapist or osteopath of great importance.
